What are Microgreens?

Microgreens are just very young edible plants that are cut and eaten in the cotyledon stage. The cotyledon stage is the first set of leaves that grow from the seed before the "true" leaves of the plant emerge.

All the nutrition found in the adult stage of vegetables we eat- like broccoli, kale, or beets- are present in concentrated form in the cotyledon stage (or micro-green stage).

They are much easier to digest, though, because there is less fiber. After all, who wants to eat tough broccoli stems?


Why would I eat microgreens?

Microgreens are considered super foods because they contain so much nutrition. The nutrition found in the adult stage of the veges we eat are concentrated in the young stage of the plant.

When you add a cup of microgreens to your bowl of water-(Oopsy! I mean a bowl of lettuce)- you're now eating a bowl of cancer-fighting, vitamin-packed, mineral-rich, HEALTH-GIVING FOOD!

How We Grow

We use only certified organic seeds, soil, and fertilizer to grow your microgreens and irrigate with only naturally sourced water- NOT municipal water.

Your microgreens are grown indoors under growlights to maintain consistency of germination and growth all year round.

We harvest your microgreens the day before delivery. Microgreens are cut, weighed, and quickly packaged into their compostible bags and refrigerated until delivery the following day.

*Please note: We do not wash your microgreens. They remain fresh longer if unwashed while stored. Please wash just before consuming.

How Delivery Works

Step 1- Purchase your microgreens from our online store any day of the week. Every Wednesday is delivery day. Your order will be delivered on the Wednesday after you place your online order.

For Example- You order 2 containers of microgreens on Saturday afternoon, then the following Wednesday, they will be delivered to your door.

If you order on a Wednesday (delivery day), your microgreens will be delivered on the following Wednesday.

Step 2- You will receive an email confirming your purchase and delivery address.

Step 3- On Tuesday, you will receive an email reminder that your microgreens will be delivered the next day. Please place a cooler near your front door for your microgreens.

Step 4- Your microgreens will be delivered every Wednesday to your doorstep. If someone will not be there to receive your microgreens at the door, please place a cooler with frozen cold pack at your front door for the delivery person to place your microgreens inside so they remain fresh. Microgreens are just baby plants and are very delicate. They will not tolerate heat and will quickly spoil if not refrigerated.

*Please Note: Tendershoot is not responsible for your microgreens spoiling if you have not provided a cooler for the delivery to be placed in. No refunds will be provided.

*The delivery charge is $5 per order. Delivery is free for customers with a weekly subscription or a minimum order of $18.
